For one day only join hosts HatchGallery for the Picton Library Expansion Fundraiser for an enduring art experience with two radiant stars of the Canadian music scene.

On Sat., Sept. 21 from 3-5 p.m. award-winning musician Kevin Hearn and singer-songwriter Sarah Slean will be putting on an intimate performance from the gallery floor at 8 Stanley St. in Bloomfield.

“This year has seen an unprecedented explosion in support for the arts, with new galleries opening and high-caliber exhibitions hanging across The County. It is a wonderful time to be a collector or an artist on our tiny island,” HatchGallery owner David Hatch said.

Earlier this year, six local galleries united to help raise over $110,000 to help with the Back the Build hospital project with the newly formed Prince Edward County Art Dealer’s Association (PECADA). This fall, David Hatch, and PECADA founding member, HatchGallery aims to assist Prince Edward County libraries in reaching their fundraising goal for the Picton Branch Library Expansion with September Island, an art exhibit and musical experience unlike any other.

Hearn is a well known member of The Barenaked Ladies and has performed with Gord Downie and Lou Reed. According to Sharpe Magazine, “Hearn may be the most important person in Canadian music right now.”

His drawings are populated with wild and whimsical characters inspired from impulsively drawn sketches made during his time on the road in hotel rooms. These drawings have graced the cover of record albums and award-winning children’s books.

Slean is a Juno nominated performer whose musical style evokes themes of cabaret, pop and rock, knit together with classical overtones and lyrical poetry. Time Magazine Canada has listed her as “One of the most compelling acts Canada has to offer.”

Through her artwork, Slean creates a fantastical world. Her painterly style is often sparse, inviting viewers to create narratives within her imagery.

“We are very honoured to be hosting this exhibition by two incredibly talented Canadian musicians. Not only are both Kevin and Sarah superstars in terms of their respective musical projects, but as it turns out, they are wonderful visual artists. When they each offered to perform a few tunes at the opening of their new exhibition at HatchGallery, we were thrilled,” Hatch added “Further discussions lead us to decide as a group to turn the affair into a fundraiser for the local library expansion in Picton. So, overall, we just couldn’t be happier! This opening is now being held for such an important cause and is shaping up to be the must attend event of the fall season here in The County.”
