A 2SLGBTQ+ Youth Drop-In

What: Our weekly drop in is an all-inclusive safer space for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and their allies. The meetings are casual and welcoming. We regularly host guests from our local queer community and beyond. We often do art projects and workshops while we discuss our challenges and successes. The youth decide what activities they'd like to do and are then supported by an adult coordinator of the program to make that happen. A variety of snacks are available at every meeting.

Where and When:
We meet online on Tuesdays at 12 PM via ZOOM. Contact Joanna for the ZOOM link jhoward@peclibrary.org or 613-476-5962.

Why:
2SLGBTQ+ youth need to have an outlet for their voices and deserve support from the community. This group allows queer youth to meet like-minded folks and interact with adults in our community who are out and proud in a safe and supportive environment.

How: The drop-in is being funded by a grant which provides a six month pilot project. This was secured from the Greater Than: County Youth Collective. Generous donations from various local parties and business are enriching the program further. The program will be continuing on into 2020.

F.A.Q.

Do you need to be Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer to attend?

No, this group is for all youth. Some folks are "out" and open about their identity and others are not. This group is for 2SLGBTQ+ identified individuals and a community that wants to support them.

Is there food provided?
Yes, each meeting will have a selection of snacks available for noshing.

Is there an age limit?
We invite anyone from age 12 to 30 to attend the meetings.

Is it confidential?
We ask that each member respect the confidentiality of the others in the group and not speak about or share photos etc. of fellow group members. Not all people attending are "out".  The meeting room is downstairs in the library which is more private, but keep in mind it is still a public building.

Our adult coordinator will respect and keep confidentiality. The only exception to this is if the coordinator has reasonable concerns about the safety of an individual in the group. In this case, the coordinator may report or seek appropriate professionals to help.

Can I get a ride?
We may be able to provide transportation in some cases. Please email Joanna at jhoward@peclibrary.org to ask about this.

How can I donate or be involved in the group as an adult supporter?
Donations can be made through our Library web page by clicking HERE. Please mention that your donation is for the 2SLGBTQ+ youth group in the notes section.

If you're interested in helping out with the group, please email our coordinator Joanna at jhoward@peclibrary.org.
