Discover YOUth!
A 2SLGBTQIA+ Youth Drop-In

Last Updated: June 2023

What: Our weekly drop-in is an all-inclusive safer space for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and allies.  We regularly host guests from our local queer community and beyond. We often do art projects and workshops while we discuss our challenges and successes. Our meetings are youth-driven and supported. A variety of snacks are available at every meeting.

Where and When: We meet every Friday from 3-5 pm downstairs in the flex space at Picton Branch Library.
We often have activities off-site, so it's good to send Joanna an email before you arrive - jhoward@peclibrary.org

We do NOT meet on snow days, holidays or school PA days.

Why: 2SLGBTQ+ youth need an outlet for their voices and deserve support from the community. This group allows queer youth to meet like-minded folks and interact with adults in our community who are out and proud in a safe and supportive environment.

How: The drop-in has been funded by grants from the Greater Than: County Youth Collective and the Huff Family foundation. Generous donations from various local parties and businesses are enriching the program further.

F.A.Q.

Do you need to be Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer to attend?

This group is for queer youth and allies as well. Some people are "out" and open about their identity and others are not. This group is for 2SLGBTQ+ identified individuals and a community that wants to support them.

Is there food provided?
Yes, each meeting will have a selection of snacks available for noshing.

Is there an age limit?
We invite anyone from age 12 to 18 to attend the meetings. If you are an older youth (over 18) looking to attend we have Youth Mentorship opportunities for you to explore.

Is it confidential?
We ask that each member respect the confidentiality of the others in the group and not speak about or share photos etc. of fellow group members. Not all people attending are "out".

Our coordinators will respect and keep confidentiality. The only exception to this is if the coordinator has reasonable concerns about the safety of an individual in the group. In this case, the coordinator may report or seek appropriate professionals to help.

Can I get a ride?
We may be able to provide transportation! Please email Joanna at jhoward@peclibrary.org to ask about this.

How can I donate or be involved in the group as an adult supporter?
Donations can be made through our library web page by clicking HERE. Please mention that your donation is for the Discover YOUth group in the notes section.

If you're interested in helping out with the group, please email our coordinator Joanna at jhoward@peclibrary.org.
