LGBTQ+ Youth Drop-In

What: Our weekly drop in is an all-inclusive safe space for LGBTQ+ youth and their straight allies. The meetings are casual in nature, safe and welcoming. We host guests from the Prince Edward County queer community, do art projects, discuss LGBTQ+ challenges and successes, and much more . The youth decide what activities they would like to plan for future meetings and are supported by an adult coordinator of the program. Snacks are available at every meeting.

Where:
Picton library, 208 Main Street Picton in the downstairs meeting room.

When:
Every Thursday from 3 PM to 5 PM.

Why:
LGBTQ+ youth need to have an outlet for their voices and deserve support from the community. This group allows queer youth to meet like minded folks and interact with adults in our community who are out and proud in and safe and supportive environment.

How: The drop-in is being funded by a grant which provides a six month pilot project slated to end in December 2019. This was secured from the Greater Than: County Youth Collective. Generous donations from various local parties and business are enriching the program further. We hope continued support will allow the program to become a permanent fixture in Prince Edward County.

F.A.Q.

Do you need to be Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer to attend?

No, this group is for all youth. Some folks are "out" and open about their identity and others are not. This group is for LGBTQ+ identified individuals and the straight community that wants to support them.

Is there food provided?
Yes, each meeting will have a selection of snacks available for noshing.

Is there an age limit?
We invite anyone from age 12 to 30 to attend the meetings.

Is it confidential?
We ask that each member respect the confidentiality of the others in the group and not speak about or share photos etc. of fellow group members. Not all people attending are "out".  The meeting room is downstairs in the library which is more private, but keep in mind it is still a public building.

Our adult coordinator will respect and keep confidentiality. The only exception to this is if the coordinator has reasonable concerns about the safety of an individual in the group. In this case, the coordinator may report or seek appropriate professionals to help.

Can I get a ride?
