Reconciliation Reading Group | June 11 | Macaulay Heritage Park

Join us for our first meeting of the Reconciliation reading group, when we will discuss Valley of the Birdtail: An Indian Reserve, A White Town, and the Road to Reconciliation by Andrew Stobo Sniderman (writer, lawyer, former human rights policy advisor to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Canada), and Douglas Sanderson (AMO BINASHII) (Prichard Wilson Chair in Law and Public Policy at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law; Swampy Cree, Beaver clan, of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation).

Exceptionally well-researched, informative, and accessible, Valley of the Birdtail is an exploration of two neighbouring communities in Manitoba nestled in a shared valley, yet seemingly miles apart. The book will be our guide as we consider together questions such as: how did Canada come to be the way it is today? What does it mean to right historical wrongs? We will share space in the historic Macaulay House as we dive together into the important topics the book raises. Hosted by County Museums and Prince Edward County Public Library, this month's discussion will be led by local writer Jane Macdonald and museum curator Jessica Chase. Please come having read the book. Hard copies and e-copies are available through PEC Library, and for sale at Picton's Books & Company.
