History Of The Prince Edward County Archives

The County of Prince Edward Archives is an excellent resource for anyone interested in any aspect of local history.  The mandate of the archives is to collect and preserve printed material having any bearing on the history of Prince Edward County.

The location of the archives itself is an important part of county history.  The archives reside in the old jail of the County Courthouse, one of the oldest surviving buildings in the County.  The jail remained in use as a short-term prison until 1973 and as a local lock-up until 1981.  In 1990, the archives took over the facility.  The architecture of the jail remains intact, making the archives an important historical site.

Admission to the archives is free and all are welcome to see the facility and use the materials.
